Our team
Kiara Wharton, LCPC
I’m Kiara, Co-Owner and Mental Health Therapist here at Emberly Care. I work with individuals and families through school-based therapy, telehealth, and in-person sessions.
My journey into mental health wasn’t a straight line. In high school, I tore my ACL and originally wanted to become a physical therapist—but those anatomy and physiology classes were no joke! I realized that helping people heal didn’t have to be physical, and that’s when I found my passion for mental health.
I earned both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Rehabilitation Services and Counseling from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). Over the years, I’ve worked in a variety of settings—from schools and community programs to the detention center and outpatient mental health clinics. I’ve supported students, families, and adults through behavioral, emotional, and life challenges, always aiming to meet people where they are. In 2019 I officially became a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and still continue to build and hone my skills.
My therapeutic style is eclectic, meaning I draw from different approaches depending on what each person needs. I often remind clients to focus on creating, maintaining, and recalibrating their balance and boundaries. My philosophy are those two things go hand in hand when it comes to protecting your energy, authenticity, and peace.
Outside of work, I’m a wife and my kids rule my world! Whether it’s baseball, football, softball, or cheerleading, I’m there cheering them on, as a mom and a coach. When I get the chance, I also love tackling DIY home projects.
I look forward to meeting and working with you!
Kristin Gordy, CRNP-PMH
Hi, I’m Kristen — a psychiatric nurse practitioner and co-owner of Emberly Care. My path to mental health work wasn’t a straight line, but it’s one that led me exactly where I’m meant to be.
I started my journey with a bachelor’s degree in Geography and Environmental Studies (with a minor in Cartography!) before eventually finding my way to nursing. I earned my ADN in 2008, BSN in 2010, MSN–Family Nurse Practitioner in 2012, and later completed my Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification in 2017.
When I first became a nurse, I loved that I could go anywhere and do just about anything — and I did! Over the years, I’ve worked in critical care, med-surg, hospice, assisted living, rehab facilities, and private practices. I’ve always been drawn to the “hands-on” side of care — the messy, real, deeply human work that helps people feel better in both body and mind.
It was while working in a dementia unit that I began to recognize how much mental health care was needed — and how powerful connection and understanding could be. Around that time, I became a mom and faced my own challenges with postpartum struggles and infertility. Those experiences opened my eyes to how limited and hard-to-access mental health support can be, and they solidified my passion for bringing compassionate psychiatric care to others.
My approach is direct, honest, and rooted in genuine care. I believe in listening first, meeting people where they are, and never losing my sense of humor along the way.
Outside of work, I’m a wife and also a mom to amazing (and occasionally wild) kids, a lover of sunshine, beach days, books, and my fur babies. I’m also a runner and have proudly completed two half marathons. My family is both my greatest joy and my biggest adventure.
Kristin Hearne, LCSW-C
Hi, I’m Kristin — a therapist, co-owner of Emberly Care, and a firm believer in the healing power of authentic connection.
I began my career working with children and families in foster care, schools, and outpatient mental health settings. Those early years shaped my passion for helping people rebuild trust, safety, and connection after life’s hardest experiences. I continue to use play therapy and attachment-based parenting approaches, and since becoming EMDR-trained in 2020, I’ve expanded my work to include adults healing from trauma as well.
My style is warm, down-to-earth, and eclectic — rooted in attachment theory and guided by the belief that healing happens in relationships. I love working with both children and adults, and I have a special place in my heart for supporting parents.
Creativity plays a big role in both my life and my work. I love weaving music, movement, and art into sessions whenever it feels right — helping clients express what words sometimes can’t. These creative approaches often open doors to deeper healing and self-understanding.
Outside of the therapy room, I’m a wife and mom of three . I love yoga, traveling, reading, the beach and connecting with people wherever I go.
My goal as a therapist is to help you reconnect with your most authentic self and rediscover your capacity for growth, love, and joy. I genuinely believe in the good in people, even when they can’t yet see it in themselves.
If you’ve ever been the one holding everyone else together, feeling too much, or trying to find your way back to yourself — I get it. And you don’t have to do it alone.
Mary Beth Brinsfield, CRNP-PMH
Hello! I’m Beth — one of the psychiatric nurse practitioners at Emberly Care. My path into mental health wasn’t something I had planned from the beginning, but it quickly became exactly where I knew I was meant to be.
While in nursing school, I was offered an internship in mental health and nearly said no. Saying yes turned out to be a pivotal moment — one that shaped the direction of my entire career. From that experience on, I knew I wanted to focus my work on psychiatric care and supporting people through some of life’s most vulnerable moments.
I earned a bachelor's degree in biology before completing my bachelor's and master's of nursing degrees. I became certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in 2019. Over the years, I’ve worked in inpatient psychiatric settings, psychiatric home health nursing, and community mental health outpatient care. I work exclusively with adults and hold a special place in my heart for older adults, whose stories, resilience, and life experiences continue to inspire me.
My approach is patient-centered and grounded in evidence-based practice. I believe the best care happens when clients feel heard, respected, and involved in their treatment decisions. Open and honest communication is at the core of how I work, and I value collaboration.
Outside of work, I’m the proud mom of one amazing son and a devoted fur-mom to two rescue dogs, Major and Niki — plus one grand fur dog, Paige. I love the beach, warm weather, and that perfect feeling of sun on my face and wind in my hair. I also love traveling and consider myself a major foodie!
I look forward to meeting you and being part of your journey.
